Trauma-informed Care (TIC) - Presented by Andy Moloney
Mar 28, 2025Building on Andy's first presentation on "Sense of Safety", Trauma-informed Care (TIC) is the next step in a deeper understanding of Whole-Person Care. TIC was developed through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and focuses on these six principles:
Trustworthiness & Transparency
Safety
Collaboration
Empowerment
Peer Support
Cultural & Social Awareness
SAMHSA defines Trauma as “Individual trauma results from an event, series of events, or set of circumstances that is experienced by an individual as physically or emotionally harmful or life-threatening and that has lasting adverse effects on the individual’s functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional, or spiritual well-being.”
With our growing understanding of the influence of adversity and trauma on the development of physical and mental ill health, TIC creates a framework in which, as practitioners, we can operate to improve our Therapeutic Relationship. This also informs us as practitioners to ensure we are maintaining this environment within our workplace through responsible and intentional communication
